A dedicated 3-year NMCN-accredited programme in maternal, newborn, and reproductive health care — training skilled, compassionate midwives who are the cornerstone of safe motherhood across Nigeria.
The Basic Midwifery programme is a three-year NMCN-accredited course leading to the Registered Midwife (RM) certificate — the professional qualification that authorises practice as a midwife across Nigeria. It focuses intensively on the full spectrum of midwifery care: antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, neonatal, and reproductive health services.
Students receive supervised clinical training in maternity wards, labour rooms, antenatal clinics, and neonatal units at affiliated teaching hospitals. Nigeria's high maternal and neonatal mortality rates make skilled midwives one of the most urgently needed professionals in the country — SCNS midwifery graduates answer that call directly.
"Nurturing Life, Protecting Mothers"
To train skilled, ethical midwifery professionals who provide safe, respectful, and evidence-based maternal and newborn care — reducing Nigeria's maternal and infant mortality and advancing reproductive health equity.
To be a centre of midwifery excellence producing practitioners who champion safe motherhood, neonatal health, and women's rights throughout Nigeria and across the African continent.
We believe childbirth is a natural, profound human experience requiring both clinical expertise and deep compassion. Our midwives are trained to support, empower, and protect mothers and newborns with dignity, respect, and professional excellence.
