The establishment of the Standard College of Nursing Sciences marks a significant milestone that originated from careful planning, deliberation, and strategic initiatives. A team of visionary individuals, namely: Hon. Isah Sidi Rijau, Alhaji Abdullahi Boyi, Alhaji Sani Garba, Mallam Alhassan D. Mamma, and Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu, explored ways to make positive impacts on society, particularly in the area of education and future of the youth. Standard College of Nursing Sciences Minna, Niger State, has developed a rich legacy of excellence in Nursing Education and Healthcare since it took off in October 2020. Our institution was founded with a vision to provide quality education and training to aspiring nursing professionals. Since our inception, we have been committed to nurturing compassionate caregivers and skilled healthcare practitioners. From the beginning, the idea of establishing a private polytechnic was contemplated as a means to address the educational gaps in Niger State. However, further deliberations led the group to recognize the pressing need for a College of Nursing Sciences. Many aspiring individuals in the region were passionate about nursing and midwifery education, but the opportunities were limited. The existing schools of Nursing in Bida and Kontagora were inadequate to accommodate the growing demand, leaving numerous qualified candidates without admission. Motivated by the disparities observed in other regions of Nigeria where healthcare institutions were more accessible, the committee members undertook extensive research. They engaged with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, initiated the registration process with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) under the Non-Governmental Organization - Standard Health and Education Foundation, and sought support from various stakeholders, including ministries, departments and Agencies. A pivotal moment came when His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Umar Faruq Bahago, (CON) graciously accepted the role of Chairman of the Board of Trustees, offering his Royal guidance and support. Formal applications were submitted to regulatory bodies, and detailed responses were provided to meet the necessary criteria. The primary objective remained to establish a healthcare institution that could cater to the increasing healthcare needs of the community. By creating educational opportunities for aspiring youth, the college aimed to facilitate admission, education, graduation, and subsequent employment in hospitals and clinics. Today, thanks to meticulous planning and dedication, our vision has transformed into a reality, addressing the critical shortage of healthcare personnel in the region.
